Finally, fans of PlayStation portable who were scared by the hefty price tag can find joy in this exciting bit of information. Sony has dropped the price of the PS Vita; the next-generation of the original PlayStation portable.
In the Gamescom Keynote, Sony made the confirmation and the implementation starts with immediate effect. The Wi-Fi model of the PS Vita which sold for $249 now ships for $199 while the 3G model is $249; a significant drop from the original $299.
The company also said it has dropped the price of memory cards for the PS Vita as well as a confirmation of indie games heading to the portable device.
The PS Vita is a powerful handheld gaming device and has been suggested by Sony to have the same power as the PS3. It features a 5-inch touch OLED display powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor. The GPU is a quad-core PowevrVR. Wi-FI, Bluetooth, GPS, Dual analogue, motion controls, touch pad and optional 3G effectively makes the handheld device a fantastic gaming device.
With the current price being at a sweet spot, it is expected that sales of Sony’s flagship handheld gaming device would improve.
