Everyone craves for top position in SERP ranking and you can’t really blame anyone who has built the constitution of his mind to have such desires.
70% conversion is guaranteed for any article that makes top spot in a Google search query, and this makes most bloggers tweak their blog and articles to meet certain criteria for making their wish completely realizable. For me, this is where dangers looms; many have resorted to using blackhat SEO techniques which brings long term failure while a few have seen reasons to remain with whitehat SEO techniques which doesn’t guarantee instant success but a preserved success that can be maintained.
5. Google+ Authorship
Google has constantly said authorship is not a criterion for ranking links on SERP. While we have no option than to believe what the web search giant has said, it is recommended that your blog has Google+ authorship set up and working effectively.
An article on SERP with Google+ authorship has a better chance of being clicked by humans irrespective of the position outside of position 1. When you have built an authority in the blog-o-sphere which requires time and persistence, people will naturally click on your links with your Google+ authorship enabled because of the reputation and trust that has been built over the years.
4. Link Health
In one of my articles, I explained the need to have a healthy link profile. Most time, your blog could be associated with spammy links and when this is the case, search engine won’t spare you. You will notice a steady and then, sudden dip in traffic. You will need to learn how to identify, prevent and stop negative SEO from hurting your blog.
That said; always strive to leave your blog URL on only relevant blogs that have good authority. There is no point spaming your links on every site out there. Little things like this could be a potential reason why top spot in SERP looks impossible for you.
3. Webmaster Tool
There is no week I don’t play around Google Webmaster Tool and Bing Webmaster tool. How some bloggers aspiring for success sleep at night without making this tool a great companion is completely beyond me.

The tool is lightweight, yet contains so much detail and will ultimately give you a clue on how to fix a problem that can potentially cause harm to your blog. If you haven’t been spending quality time in both of these places, then there is no better time than making a resolve to cultivate a new habit today.
2. Avoid Buying Backlinks
Google robots have become more complex and are tweaked everyday with sophisticated weaponry to not only detect but to mark as spam, blogs whose owners have devoted quality time to acquiring backlinks.
When Google bot marks a blog as spam, it takes a great deal of “house-cleaning” to reposition your blog with Google webmaster standard before making that decision to make an appeal.
Google hates spam like everyone else, if spaming the web is the only way to attract success, then it isn’t worth the effort. What I do know is that success is surrounded by a sea of sweat, you must work to attract it, so when you finally get it, it won’t vanishes into the thin air.
1. Quality Over Quantity
Most bloggers hate to see the sentence; “Always strive to write quality contents.” But they love the word “backlinks,” no matter where it is coming from. I know this is annoying, everyone talks about the need to write quality contents but it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. Even the best and genuine SEO expert can’t deny the fact that quality contents remain the best SEO techniques anyone can ever dream of.
When I started blogging in one of those failed attempts, my goal was backlinks and not readers, but I learned the hard way and of course, the lessons learned was to write more for humans and write less for bots. This does take a great deal of time and research because you have to provide something new, something fresh and unique to keep your readers asking for more.
Over To You
I would hope that this article is more than just a “writing” in your screen. I would hope that I’ve made a positive difference in the lives of bloggers who have been deceived into believing that SEO must be done irrespective of the risk involved, just as other bloggers have made a positive difference in my life by guiding me through the ultimate SEO technique of always striving for quality contents.
I love to hear from you buddy, is your SEO technique hurting your blog?
