What happens when your smartphone malfunctions and you need to wipe your data or restore to factory settings? Of course, you will need a backup data to ensure all your files don’t go into the wind.
To backup Windows Phone 8 data is pretty easy, you won’t need to any third-party application to initiate and complete the process.
Initiating The Windows Phone 8 Backup Process
Firstly, it wouldn’t be out of place if we give thumbs-up to Microsoft, they made the process entirely simple. If you ever used the Windows Phone 7, you’d realize how so cumbersome it was to effectively backup data.
So, here is the deal, in few easy steps, you would learn to have a backup copy of your Windows Phone 8 data. I wrote a tutorial that explains how to show or hide Windows 8 files. You definitely want to check it out.
Hint: Access your Skydrive storage settings to select connection.
This process will backup your Windows Phone 8 data to the Sky drive account linked with your phone. If you opt for this method, ensure you have a high-speed internet connection.
1. On your Windows Phone 8, Locate App+Settings on your Phone.
2. Using the switch button, turn on Backup.

If you are not comfortable with the first method, you can sync your data to your PC directly using the “Windows Phone Sync Tool”
Simply plug your Windows Phone 8 to your PC with the supplied USB cable. Locate your device on your PC and initiate the process.
One thing you need to know is that you can’t backup your apps to your PC or your device external memory. You can only do such backups via Skydrive.
