Blogger vs WordPress is obviously a constant argument for many who finally decide to become a blogger or use either platform for online marketing. Whichever the case, neither of the two best blogging platforms can claim to be the ultimate platform as they both have their own bragging rights.
In this article, I will try to clarify the argument of which blogging platform is better. Instead of arguing endlessly, let us examine the two blogging platforms.
Blogger Vs WordPress – The Ultimate Comparison
Blogger vs WordPress? The endless battle for dominance between Blogger and WordPress is one that has gotten many people confused, leaving a lot of them at the mercy of misguided opinions. Before you decide on picking either platform you have to relate what your needs are with what’s available to both of them.
Blogger is owned by the world’s largest search engine, Google. What this means is that; like every other Google products and services which is nothing but pure class, Blogger is irresistible. In 2003, Google acquired Blogger which has seen the blogging platform undergone some notable changes, including a few re-designs and introduction of a few templates.
Blogger is not a commercial service, it is entirely free with the capacity to use a custom domain, there are no upgrades or premium accounts, all users benefit from access to all of blogger’s features and customization options is open to everyone.

Advantages of Using Blogger
- Within minutes, your blog is ready upon approval of your name by Blogger
- It is entirely free to use
- It is exceptionally easy to use
- A lot of free and premium templates are available to suite needs
- Customization is almost beyond limit.
- No programming skills is required to set up a basic blog
- No default advertisement placement
- Quick access to Google advertising network
- Mobile access to Blogger dashboard with Blogger app available on PlayStore and AppStore
Disadvantages of Using Blogger
Everything that has an advantage must have a corresponding disadvantage. So lets take a look at some of the most notable disadvantages
- Very limited widgets and Gadgets
- (Gadgets are like WordPress Plugins, they help to ease your operation with a platform)
- 1GB limited image storage
- You can’t import from other blogging platform, since it relies entirely on Xhtml
- The comment system of Blogger is annoying at best; you need a little bit of extra, customization if you ever wish of getting any form of result.
- The major disadvantage of Blogger and a big letdown is that it has no knowledge of ASP.Net or PHP programming languages, the means you won’t be able to achieve a lot of exciting features being run on these programming languages.
Despite these disadvantages, the advantages still gives Blogger some bragging rights. Being HTML based means anyone can design and customized a blog without the need for a programmer which would obviously make the package not free. It’s rare to see programmers dishing out free stuffs, you know what I mean.
Automattic team is the brain behind WordPress. Since the platform was first launched in 2003, it has only moved from good to best. WordPress is simply fantastic and opens the door to a whole a new level of web development in a few clicks.
Unlike Blogger, WordPress is a commercial hub and no one can blame the team for this, considering the volume of resources and time spent in ensuring that the open-source blogging platform is free to download and user’s interface is unmatched.
WordPress comes in two types:
WordPress.com and
WordPress.org
WordPress.com is similar to Blogger reason being that it is not self-hosted and you get your free domain in this manner; YourBlogName.wordpress.com. But for an extra $15, you can acquire a domain name. 3GB of space for file storing is also made available to you. On a downside, you can’t edit the template files of WordPress.com

Other premium plans of WordPress.com include;
$30 – A ad-free blog
$30 – Custom Design
$13 – Custom Redirect
$129 – Blog transfer (one off-payment)
$60 – VideoPress
These plans are intended for only one blog and its validity last for only one year.
Advantages of Using WordPress.org
WordPress.org is an open-source and free to download blogging platform. It is self-hosted and gives you enormous freedom, including the capacity to choose your domain and choose whatever hosting company your soul lustiest for.
It offers a compelling and processional look. CNN is an example of millions of professional sites powered by WordPress. A few of the most notable advantages are listed below:
- Well developed comment system
- Impressive default templates available from the scratch
- Programming languages are effectively utilized
- A large volume of plugins is available to suit whatever your needs are
- It allows import from other blogging platform. Eg, Blogger.
Disadvantages of Using WordPress.org
- A pain in the back-side for non-programmers
- Free templates looks mediocre at best, you must go premium for best result
- Vulnerable to hackers if you don’t practice good security measures.
Conclusion
I have succeeded in examining the two blogging platforms, but a third was established; WordPress.org. I could go on and on about this and keep whiny about why one blogging platform is better than the other, but I will do you no good if I decide to thread on that path. The aim of the article is to expose you to the various challenges associated with whatever blogging platform you eventually decide to choose.
I have seen bloggers make use of Blogger platform in a fantastic way that will leave your jaw dropped. The initial thought might be that it’s a WordPress blog but after a few clicks, you realize that Blogger has been pushed to the very limit. Like I argued earlier, both platforms have their own bragging rights, if you don’t want to receive constant upgrade mails from your host, stick with Blogger. If you are looking for less stress and have a lot of cash to spill, use WordPress combined with lots of exciting premium templates that will make your love blogging even more.

Hello Nosa,
WordPress and blogger? I am using both blogging platform and i must say that, wordpress is more easy to use and customize. If you are not a programmer or have little knowledge about code, you cannot use the blogger platform to its fullest.
I still love both platform and we all know that both has their disadvantages. Nice post and do have a wonderful week ahead…

Hi Sam,
Yeah, Blogger is great and you made the right decision to start with it and a later time when you are reading to do exciting things caused by the limitation of Blogger for being not programing friendly, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to move to WordPress.

I have been using blogger platform and haven’t tried wordpress.com much,I once did try wordpress but had a painful experience as I had to host the site to add premium themes as well it’s pretty hrad to customize layout in wordpress. So, for me blogger is the best
Nosa E Nosa
Hello Kapil,
I am sorry about your experience and I am glad you are getting desired result from Blogger. Don’t you think saying Blogger is best a rather too much of a bogus claim? 🙂
Clipping Path
I’m really happy with Blogger as of now. I’ve been playing around with
Wordpress for a while in case I do decide to move in the future but it
seems too complicated! Some times, less is more and especially for
someone like me who has trouble manoeuvring Blogger at points, WordPress
seems like a no-go. But all the plug-ins do sound pretty cool!
Especially the Easy Content Templates! I could really use that! 🙂
Mobiers.com
They both are the best for blogging but on some point blogger wins the
race as it has easy to use interface and much more features than the
WordPress.
