Most times I have come across highly rated bloggers insisting that you must start your blogging life with Blogger, then migrate to WordPress at a latter time. However, I opted to start with WordPress about 5-years ago and I must say it was a remarkable experience.
About few months ago I decided to create my first Blog ruining on the very intuitive Blogger platform. I am enjoying the platform, it is quite easy to use although with some few limitations which I would talk about at a latter day.
The first mistake I made using Blogger was to start editing my template files without a backup. I thought I was still using WordPress where nothing gets wrong, and even when it did I could always fall back to my original template. Blogger is quite different in this regard, best practice suggests that you must backup your template files before you begin to play around with the core of files.
To perform a Blogger template backup, follow the instructions below:
When you perform a backup, your widgets, headers and all related to your template will be saved.
1. Navigate to Blogger Dashboard
2.. Find and Click on your Blog Title
3.. Go to Template tab.
4. Click on Backup/Restore button on top right.
5. Click Download full template button and you will have a backup copy of your template in XML format (.xml). Keep it in a safe place.
6. Close the pop up window.
To restore you backup file, follow the instructions below:
1. Navigate to your Blogger Dashboard
2. Find and Click on your Blog Title
3. Quickly, jump to Template tab.
4. Click on Backup/Restore button on top right.
5. On the pop up you will find Choose File button and click on it. Browse for your backup XML template file (.xml) and click Open button after selecting it.
6. Now click Upload button.
7. Close the pop up, once restoration is complete.
That’s it, never again should you cry over your lost template files.
Enjoy 😀
