Hardware & Design
The A9 2020 comes with a bigger screen and also looks quite taller when compared with its predecessor of 2019. The 20:9 display features a little notch at the top, which houses the selfie camera.
The smartphone is light, sleek and can easily be operated with one hand. Thanks to its plastic unibody design. OPPO uses a glossy material design for the device, giving it a reflective finishing that’s a beauty to behold.
A9 2020 has slim bezels; the bezels at bottom of the display is about an inch thicker than those at the sides; as well as curvy edges to complement it. The power button is on the right side of the phone, while the SIM card slots and volume controls can be found on the left side. The SIM card tray has two slots for SIM and another for a micro SD card. You have an option to expand your storage to 256GB. Both volume and power buttons can be easily accessed with single hand operation, even though these buttons are located at pretty unconventional spots.
At the bottom of the device is the speaker grille alongside USB Type-C charging port for fast charging. A 3.5mm headphone jack and microphone is also located at the bottom of the device.
The back the OPPO A9 2020 reveals a super fast fingerprint scanner that can quickly register a user fingerprint as well quickly unlock her phone. You will also find the conspicuous quad-camera setup at the back of the device. This camera module has three out of four cameras aligned vertically from top to bottom with the fourth one beside it just below the LED flash. The fingerprint sensor lies just underneath the three sensors.
Display
OPPO uses a 6.5 inch (16.51cm HD+ with 89% screen to body ratio) display. The screen design features a waterdrop-style notch and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ paired with it’s selfie camera located inside the notch. The phone measures 163.6×7.56×0.91 mm and weighs only 195 grams.
The display 720 x 1600 pixels, which is sub HD, but should still be able to give you an immersive experience when watching HD movies or playing games. The phone reproduces satisfactory colours and also has good brightness levels which can be used comfortably well under daylight. The screen also features three temperature adjustment levels: cooler, warmer and a default option. In terms of design and display, the OPPO A9 2020 is good to go!
Performance
OPPO A9 2020 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 octa-core processor, Adreno 610 GPU and 4GB/8GB LPDDR 4x RAM. OPPO goes a bit over the board by slamming 128GB of internal storage into the device, without stripping you of the option to expand via microSD cards. You can also take advantage of OPPO’s cloud service which gives you up to 5GB of free storage to sync your photos, messages and more.
The phone multitasks well and there’s no overheating or lag when it’s used actively for a long period of time. When it comes to performance, the device is pretty fluid. It really handles gaming activities pretty well and has a separate Game Boost 2.0, Touch Boost and Frame Boost feature to help enhance your gaming experience.
The phone runs on ColorOS 6.1 on Android 9 Pie operating system. As a customer UI, the phone comes preinstalled with some third-party apps which can be uninstalled. However, there is quite a lot of them which makes the clearing up, tedious. Switching between apps is smooth. The operating system is easy to use and you get used to it, over time.
Registering fingerprint or face lock is very easy and without hassle. However, the fingerprint unlocks proved to be faster and more efficient than the face unlock, which is very difficult to access in low light or dim areas. A safer third option is to activate the PIN/password or pattern unlock.
The Gaming experience on the A9 2020 is next to none, from the Game Boost 2.0 that ensures efficient and optimal gaming experience to the immersive sound quality created by the 360 Dolby Atoms Dual Stereo, there is literally no match. The OPPO Gaming Centre also helps provide a better game experience as it makes sure that you are not interrupted by notifications, and it optimizes the network to make sure that you can still play effectively even with slow network speed.

The camera works well in daylight, pictures taken with it appear clear and crisp but you will notice a little noise when zoomed it.
The phone boasts of a separate night mode for low light photography that proves to be quite effective by removing shadows and also bringing out better colours.
Selfie/Front Camera: The front camera has beautification more turned on by default and it takes two taps to turn it off. It has just enough exposure and detailing to balance it out. The outdoor selfie mode has a little bit of blown highlights but not to worry as this is a minimal occurrence.
Video: For the video aspect, the phone captures videos with 4K support, 1080P and 720P@30fps. There is also a stable mode for shooting videos as well as slow- motion video, time-lapse and panorama.
