This is the most robust Tecno Camon C9 review you will ever read. When a N55,000 smartphone is this good why would you spend more? Tecno Camon 9 is just as good as any standard smartphone you might want to bet your money on but it does one thing better, and that’s the selfie.
Being the second iteration and the successor to the so called Camon C8, Tecno makes a beast that smacks-down the competition. The camera-focused smartphone automatically becomes the benchmark for devices designed to exclusively capture great images in a nearly perfect way.
The smartphone is fast, beautiful, long-lasting and reasonably priced; you won’t find a better all-rounder. I have particularly checked, partly the reason why the Tecno Camon C8 review was pushed forward so I don’t release bogus claims. Before that, here is the Tecno Camon C9 specs, neatly arranged in tabular format.
Unboxing
Tecno Camon C9 comes in a traditional pack and contains the standard stuff you naturally find in a smartphone pack. – The phone, a Charger, micro USB cord, Handsfree, and a Phone case. This is the normal formality for most top Tecno smartphones. Only a few exceptions have an extra pack like the Boom J8.
Tecno Camon C9 Review
Immediate impressions are positive, Although the phone has the same 5.5-inch sized screen as the Camon C8, elsewhere, it’s all change. The most distinctive change is the position of the selfie camera, which is centered at the front to give users a balanced wide angle. The device also comes with an irsh-scanner, taking a step further against the fingerprint scanner that first appeared on the Tecno Phantom 5.
I wasn’t quite as bowled over with the design when I first clapped eyes on it via the web, but a firsthand experience, not from a bland of distance exposes the distinct design that looks like the long-lost love child of Tecno, a design that should have rocked the first Camon phone.
Get the phone on your hands, you notice that this is the same story.. The removable back, the shutter button, the volume rocker, power button, the dual SIM slot, micro SD slot, all positioned well – it’s great. Really great. The Tecno Camon C9 is a fabulous value and I mean it. What is value? 2GB RAM, 16GB on-board storage, Android 6.0 based on HiOS… Now, that’s value.
Performance and Battery Life
Enough of the shallow frippery, and to the meat of the Tecno Camon C9 review. How does the Tecno Camon C9 perform with its raw power compare to rivals when it comes to performance?
From the Antutu benchmark results, there are a pretty strong selection of smarthones and yet, the Tecno Camon C9 show some strong performance, but under the iPhone 5S which is the most prominent. Just check out the images below.
The Antutu results are equally impressive with the Camon C9 slightly better than the Tecno Boom J8. For me, this is a steal for an upper mid-range smartphone. It’s really cool.
Now, talking about the battery, it does come with 3000mAh, and lot of folks would have wanted more especially living in Nigeria where power supply is really a serious issue. That aside, the phone feels ultra-responsive, and there’s pretty much nothing I have found that fazes it. The big question is, how does all this affect the battery life? The big answer is, as long as you are not playing hardcore 3D games all day, not at all. At least, thanks to the HiOS, battery management seems to work like a charm.
However, I must point out that I have not used the phone long enough to draw any firm conclusion on the HiOS effect in the real-world use, but you can bet your bottom Naira that the Tecno Camon C9 will last a day of moderate use, if you are careful anyway.
I will update this review in the next two weeks or so, specifically for the battery impressions. But so far, everything is looking good.
Display & Camera Quality
This is the aspect, the part you probably came here to read. While I am not going to waste time on the truly impressive full HD LCD display, I would have preferred an LED panel but being a full HD enabled device compliments for that in some ways that isn’t worth writing an epistle about.
The display is sharp, coupled with the Corning Gorilla Glass technology that makes the device really come alive. Yea, alive….
The same can be said about the camera quality. The Tecno Camon C9 has 13MP camera at the back and front of the smartphone with a giant LED flash at the rare and a soft flash at the front, but it’s the selfie camera I am most interested in here.
In terms of resolution, it’s an upgrade compared to the Camon C8. I really have no idea what Tecno was thinking when they released the Camon C8 and hyped it like the appearance of aliens on earth. However, the font camera on the Tecno Camon C9 is like nothing I have seen from any Chinese OEM and it’s definitely worth the hype.
It feels good, I took a couple of shots.. Emme..em.. I am not a selfie freak, but the Camon C9 made me take a selfie that would be the first I ever publish on this blog despite reviewing over 20-smartphones already.
On the hardware front, the Tecno Camon C9 has all the right elements in place. It has a fast phase-detect autofocus system, has a nice, bright aperture as well as optical image stabilisation OIS. One minor drawback is that the camera didn’t really perform well on low light, but it’s a monster in full light.

Software
Also impressive, is Tecno’s software. The HiOS that has seen a couple of updates in the last few months to makes it fluid and responsive. Preloaded apps, battery manager, RAM manager, Font management system and the eyeprint verification system all compliments nicely.
There is the T-band, the Tecno Camon C9 is designed to sync nicely with it. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can say on this aspect as I have not tried it. For folks who are wondering what the h*ck a T-band is, it’s simply Tecno’s smart wrist-band. What does our Kenyan friend think about the Tecno Camon C9 review? You definitely want to check out his opinion.
Verdict
Add everything together and there is no doubt that the Tecno Cmaon C9 is a superb smartphone. It bundles together top-level performance, an excellent camera, decent display quality and a great design with a refreshingly simple HiOS based on Android 6.0 to deliver a true camera smartphone for a silly money.
What would have I complained about? Just make the Camon 10 or whatever they decided to call it a superb upgrade like we saw from the Camon C8 to the Camon C9. Otherwise, there is really nothing I have to complain about the device at this time.

Still 2g ram and 16g rom so if they increase it their company will fold, that why i still use Samsung Note 3
Techycarole
Comparing that expensive phone with this really? I know Tecno have Phantom 5 with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM you can go for that

Ok… Quite a lengthy review but i managed to finish it.. Nice post i must say.
Talking about the battery, this is the first time tecno is being truthful about its battery capacity. this C9 battery last like a normal 3000Mah capacity battery should last..
The primary and secondary cameras are okay as it is really a selfie phone but they should have added something better to the primary, atleast a 16MP would do.
The aspect of Memory is also cool. 2Gb ram and 16Gb rom..
BTw, your selfie looks terrible. 😀
oluomo23
