Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this is the Tecno Camon CX review; we are going to tell you everything about the smartphone; every detail and performance.
So, brace up!
Since the launch of the first Camon smartphone, the Camon C8, Tecno’s willingness to make the Camon series the best when it comes to camera has constantly been in the lime light and we have stressed multiple times that Tecno’s new business idea is implementable and it’s working without difficulties.
Specific smartphone users know exactly the series of Tecno phones to purchase, if you are a camera lover or a selfie addict, you automatically know that Tecno Camon smartphones are for you and the Camon CX takes that idea a bit further with beefed-up camera specs that will completely blow you out of the water. The phone comes with high quality performance that is moderately priced.

Tecno Camon CX Review
The Good
Specs
Should Tecno have shipped the Camon CX with Helio X20 MediaTek processor? That was a major question for me but they decided to go with a MediaTek processor clocked at 1.5GHz. I realized this was the best business decision, since going above that standard will ultimately raise the price and resist people from buying. So far, there is no performance issue and in my eyes, you are not getting a bad phone because of the processor, the Tecno Camon CX has everything on its specs sheet nailed down. Don’t forget it is not a Phantom Smartphone; I would have yelled if that was the case, but it’s a camera smartphone that equally does everything and I have put down those things in this exclusive Tecno Camon CX review for you.
Anyway, for complete specifications, you know what we are looking at? A 5.5-inch Full HD display, 16MP primary camera at the back and 16MP front-facing camera, MediateTek processor, 2GB RAM, 3,200mAh non-removable battery paired with rapid charge technology, microSD support, fingerprint reader, 4G LTE, and Android 7 Nougat.
Okay, I feel I have to buttress on my earlier point regarding the processor, I would love to have seen a helio X20 chipset, but from my experience, the Tecno Camon CX do not suffer because it doesn’t have one. In this review, I will talk about the performance in a little bit, but just know that this phone is not missing anything in the specs angle, you can’t say that for a lot of phones these days. I mean, I am just wowed by what Tecno has achieved with its camera on the Camon CX.
The Tecno Camon CX is a complete package, a phone that I have not regretted keeping in my pocket for the last few days now.
Alert: Complete Tecno Camon CX Specifications
Display
One of the cool features of the Tecno Camon CX is the immersive 5.5-inch display, in pixel angle; it is a resolution of 1920 × 1080. The first time you get your hand on it, you just imagine how incredibly slim it is, it is only 5.6mm thick which is a gorgeous achievement for Tecno and fans should instantly fall in love with the design language..
One thing that always put me off is the thick bezels in most smartphone targeting our mobile market, the bezels here on the Camon CX don’t really take the beauty away from the device. So, there is absolutely nothing to complain about.
Design
To me the design of the Tecno Camon CX is hot, other people may think that it looks odd because it’s similar to the Phantom 6 Plus or the Tecno L9 Plus, except for the screen size and a little variation in placement of some components. But hey, it is what it is. The Camon CX is hot! It is slim to handle and not slippery by any means.
It is a full aluminum unibody phone, including the edges or what I love to call the frame. There is a glass on the front. The glass is a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Despite that, Tecno will offer you a free Glass replacement should you smash your phone screen within the first three months of your purchase. I am not sure how you can redeem this offer, but I am guessing if you take your receipt from any authorized phone vendor, you should get the free replacement screen in any carl care office in your area.
On the backside, you have the easily accessible fingerprint reader, plus a ring camera setup. The primary camera has a quad LED flash. As you already know, we have become accustomed to what it feels like using the fingerprint reader to encrypt and decrypt your smartphone. We like it on the Tecno Phanom 5, Tecno Phantom 6 Plus and it is no different on the Tecno Camon CX.
Comparing it to the Camon C9, it’s crazy to think Tecno evolved in the design department so quickly in just one year. If we gave out the most improved award for design, my vote would go to the Tecno Camon CX this year. Although, it’s a bit too early to call, I can’t see any phone maker going outside this kind of design language that Tecno has adopted in most of its recent devices.
You can still shatter your shatter your phone on a single drop on the ground even with the Gloria Glass protection. Accidents do happen, so don’t be ashamed if you plan on throwing your Camon CX in a case. Tecno has a free case in the box for you, and not only will it protect your phone from drops, it will also protect it from light scratching, also.
In Nigeria, the Camon CX comes in Gold, Black or Grey colour, maybe the guys in Kenya will get a White version. I would loved to see a White version of the smartphone. Each color has its own positives anyway, and generally I love black for devices because I always use a black or dark theme which looks better for the display. Anyways, this is subjective, if there was a pink color, I am sure ladies will love it, that’s something Tecno should look at in the future.
Ladies take more selfie and researchers have been able to prove that girls love the pink color, therefore it wouldn’t be a bad idea if Tecno release a pink version of its next Camon smartphone.
Camera
Tecno’s biggest bragging right with the Camon CX is its photography talents. Without any debate, the Camon C9 was a beast, but I can tell you it has been totally displaced by the much better and improved camera specs of the Camon CX. The ability to offer wide-angle shots with its front-facing camera is a significant boost and something users will really appreciate as they get used to the phone.
You won’t get close to the DSLR camera, there is some curvature at the edges of the frame and you will notice the noise and dip in quality when you zoom into photos. But for regular photos, you are rest assured you are carrying a beast! In terms of photography, it performs better than any smartphone made to fit into the Nigeria mobile market.
Tecno is the first phone maker to have four LED flash at the back of the phone to better capture images in the night. They equally tried to replicate the same thing with the selfie camera by implementing a dual soft flash in front of the phone. It feels different when using the Camon CX, you become a pro in photography, it makes taking group photos with the selfie camera totally fun.
There is a built-in photo editing app which will also let you edit photos on the fly. So, while the smartphone gives you top quality photos in the day, it will equally give you good photos in low-light performance. You can expect a lot of natural color and a cool dynamic rage during daylight.
Honestly, there is no shortage in camera feature, so don’t worry about getting bored when trying to be creative with the phone. You will pull some really fantastic images as you get along with the functionality of the phone’s camera.
Here are photo samples from my time with the Camon CX in different lightening conditions that should blow your mind. They have not been retouched, only resized.
And here is our only selfie photo, I am not a huge fan of selfies, but I can tell you the front-facing camera is unbelievable!
Performance
When it comes to real world usage and from my experience, things have been fine with the performance of the Camon CX.
Here is the AnTuTu benchmark score of the device.
While the data gives you glimpse of what to expect in the phone, in reality, there have been nothing that dips the performance. Opening up apps, playing games, then switching back and forth is no problem on the Camon CX. Believe me, if there was something wrong in the performance department, I’d be the first to let you know. I don’t have capacity to show mercy in that regard, because your hard-earned money is on the line if you decide to purchase a phone through any of our reviews, so we take them very seriously.
It doesn’t take too much time to open up the camera app and take the first shot, and you can tap the shutter to get to work faster once that is completed. Everything works just fine, performance has been fluid, and let’s hope it stays that way.
Software and Battery
When the performance of the phone is super cool, then the software has to compliment for it, right? That’s the case looking at the Camon CX review, Tecno’s HiOS based on Android 7 makes things a bit easier. There are a lot of customization that you will find helpful as you start your journey on the device.
The notification tray has also been tweaked to make things less of a mess and the UI has been tailored to suit a normal tech savvy Nigerian. Despite the fact that I had to swipe down the notification tray twice before I can access the settings, it is not all bad. It’s a possibility that future updates will let users move the settings icon to the main notification tray, otherwise you certainly have to get used to the way it works.
There’s a couple of themes and font to choose from right out of the box, especially the more “High Contrast” themes that makes viewing your smartphone incredibly mild and soft to the eyes. The Hi Manager is my favorite built-in app by Tecno, and the feature I use most in the app is the “App Freeze”, which will give you capabilities to stop certain apps from working in the background. I have found this feature very useful; because a few clicks will enable me stop getting notifications from Instant Messaging apps, until I unfreeze them.
Basically, I am a fan of the better aesthetic modifications to the core of Android 7 on the Camon CX, so things are getting really easy out here, using the Camon CX based on these markers, is absolutely fun.
I am always skeptical when it comes to battery specs, there are a lot of things you must consider when placing a demand on any smartphone based on its battery capacity. The larger the display which take the biggest percentage of battery power, the more the demand for battery power.
With the Camon CX, there is a two folds combo that ensures your battery power is better managed. Firstly, the HiOS is designed to minimally consume power, paired with a smart battery management app to get things really easy when it comes to managing your battery usage.
Secondly, the rapid charge made possible by MediaTek Pump Express charge technology makes sure you get optimum battery charge within the shortest time and without destroying the battery core.
So, in terms of battery, the 3,200mAh battery capacity is sufficient for any power user and you should get the most out of it.

Tecno is really doing great.. at least the camera of the device could be used for full event cover..

The camera is stunning, thumbs up to their engineers… But we shouldn’t heap too much praise on them, lest they get carried away… Cheers!

What a read, great review. How many manual options does the camera have?

Amazing review and awesome device i must confess. Front & back Cameras are stunning and the design is really fantastic. But one thing i think tecno should look into is the size of RAM. To me 2Gb ram for a topnotch device like this is a big turnoff.

Thanks for your feedback, I am sure they are reading.. It’s obvious the RAM is something they should look into.. Although, we have not recorded any performance issue so far..

This was a detailed read, I am not sure how I read everything but so far, it looks like you are a genuine reviewer. Not one of those paid Tecno marketers, my only problem is the RAM.. Dem for just make am 3GB..
I am sold out with the camera shots, that’s the only thing that will make me get the phone, but that 70K na die

Nice video, but work on your background music.. I didn’t hear anything at the begining and the rising and lowering was jiggering..
