Editorial: Tecno’s New Approach To Smartphones Is Good News For Everyone

Tecno has taken a giant step in its smartphone development process and it’s a win for everyone

Few months ago when Tecno unveiled its next generation smartphone, skepticism knew no bound since the company had already earned itself an undesirable reputation for pushing out smartphones with down-market functionality.

However, that was largely not the case and for the first time, the company may have decided to listen to its users or saw the threat from other mobile vendors like Gionee and equally realized that even their apologetic fans would become ineffective in saving their backside should they suddenly become irrelevant in the battle of the mobile markets.

Tecno’s R7 smartphone is a massive twist from the conventional smartphones released under their various labels. The good news is that Tecno actually pushed themselves to finally deliver a smartphone that wouldn’t have the infamous “down-market smartphone” tag.

But this is not to say that we are satisfied with everything that has been slammed into the R7. Evidently, this is just a starting point for more things to come.

Tecno R7 utilizes the new high performance hexa-core MediaTek processor combined with ARM Cortex-A7 architecture. They didn’t stop there, they went further by slamming the device with 2 GB RAM. Although, the product didn’t get the 4G reception, it got a bigger internal memory and you can either get the 8 GB model or the 16 GB model, both of which comes with microSD support.

Tecno’s new direction to smartphone development looks really impressive. Just three months ago, we were really critical about Tecno’s missing features and the lack of OTA Update was really embarrassing, especially for a company that has had its foothold in Nigeria mobile markets. But Tecno finally decides to give everyone a gift and that is to finally bow to pressure by incorporating the much requested OTA feature in Tecno R7.

Now, users will no longer be restricted to using an outdated OS, which prevents them from accessing all the rich features that accompanies a new OS as well as the bugs that are fixed.

The biggest winner here are not only users of Tecno mobile devices but everyone since the company’s new approach looks to change the mind of some Tech savvy users.
