Old blog is old blog and new blog is new blog
A forth night ago, I said I was quitting blogging and I was really serious about it, even when I had no replacement for something I have loved for close to a decade. But something happened; I got an unusual motivation which compromised my earlier decision and somehow I managed to find that basic instinct to remain in this blogging ecosystem after taking a few weeks off.
So, I am here and you are here and it’s a privilege and an honor to officially welcome you to our new baby. Welcome to TechRez! 🙂
TechRez is a full-fledged tech blog, having its core on tech news, mobile, gadgets, reviews, gaming, autos, science and big-tech. Other features would be incorporated into it in future, like the store and a job portal. It’s a new project and a massive flip from thatnaijablog.
So here is the Good, Bad and Ugly about our move.
What’s New? | |
1: | A mega menu that categorically displays all our posts, it simply makes the navigation easy. |
2: | Fully revamped review system, allowing readers to rate products reviewed. |
3: | Videoblogging with previews, reviews as well as gadgets comparison. |
4: | The slides incorporates widgetized slides with posts into the mega sidebar. |
5: | A new interview interface that will make our interviews intuitive and engaging. |
6: | Podcasting has also been planned, and it promises to be exciting always |
7: | The Rez base where editor’s pick are beautifully displayed on the homepage. |
9: | The Auto’s category where the finest cars would be proudly displayed in portfolio format. |
10: | A forum as well as a mega store is also in the works. |
The Good
#Branding
One of the major reasons why I decided to change the domain name was simply because we had succeeded in building a blog. The next phrase was to build a brand, which ultimately led to the decision to move and initiate the search for a brandable name as well as narrowing our niche exclusively to tech and its relations. To this effect, there would no longer be “blogging-tips” article published on the blog. We have equally updated our Editorial Guideline to reflect the changes.
#Motherland
My initial plan was to connect to motherland with the “naija” slang, but it appears having a flip would be a better solution. Having a global name with a color scheme that reflects Nigeria will make more sense and that we have adopted. The blog now sits on a green color core, rather than the previous “blue and red” and our content will see a balance between foreign and local.
#Keyword: It’s fair enough to come up with a domain name that is easy to remember and equally has a keyword that explicitly defines the blog.
#Writers: That’s for sure, we will have new writers to spice things up here a little.
The Bad
#Disqus
One of the most notable change is that we have removed Disqus. I am a die-hard fan of disqus and I have not listened well enough to users of the blog. I argued earlier about resource usage and spam but now that we have acquired a hosting plan 10x bigger and better than the previous one, we will no longer leave our users in frustration when they need to make an input.
#CommentLuv
This won’t go down with a lot of persons, but since our focus has been streamlined to tech and its relation, it would make more sense to make our comment area a little less messy with links. CommentLuv is a great and fantastic plugin by Andy and that’s a major requirement to having a guest post on ComLuv. However, we had to reach a compromise by excluding it.
The Ugly
#Blog’s Authority
It’s like starting all over again, even though we have decided to implement a 301 redirect. It will take a while before the blog’s replicates what was achieved on the old blog. It will take time but TechRez is long term and I think that should be the least of our worries.
#Interviews
We will have an interview section that will attract top tech enthusiast across the globe. Our aim is to squeeze never-again-to-be duplicated secretes from the biggest guys in the world of tech.
Why the delay?
Well, we were still on the fence, to move or not to move. I was advised to make a TechRez a fresh start and maintain ThatNiajaBlog, but that would be a suicide mission for me. If my emphasis is on excellence, the right to excel would be greatly tempered if I ever attempted to manage two similar blogs.
We would have long concluded the migration, until the zeal to remain in the ecosystem was greatly tempered. However, it’s nice to see us picking up from where we left.
Your Verdict?
Firstly, I need to apologize for over-hyping our new baby. There were a lot of issues to consider and we needed to be sure, the move we were taking won’t be an exercise in futility.
I appreciate your time here, reading and navigating what’s new on the blog and without all of you in my thought pattern. This would never have been a reality. We would love your input about the new direction and sleek design that would be optimized for speed within the next few weeks.
We are still in the beta [testing] phrase and we will try to incorporate all the ideas before the year’s end. If you find a bug, kindly shoot us a mail and we will fix ASAP. Thanks 🙂
Best Regards
